Russia controls part of Ukraine, many places in Donetsk were attacked

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, nearly 20% of the country’s territory is already under the control of the Russian military.

“To date, about 20% of Ukraine’s territory is under enemy control, which is nearly 125,000 square kilometers. Ukraine lost more land than Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg combined. Fighting continues along the front line stretched more than 1,000km, from Kharkiv province in the north to the Mykolaiv region in southern Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Donbass region, which was once one of the most powerful industrial centers in Europe, has been destroyed,” CNN news agency quoted Zelensky as telling the Luxembourg House of Representatives today (June 2).

According to Zelensky, more than 30,000 Russian soldiers have died since the start of hostilities, and this is “more than the number of Russian soldiers who died in the two wars in Chechnya”.

“I call on the Luxembourg legislators to increase sanctions against Russia, as well as to support Ukraine with more weapons to fight on the front lines. At the same time, I would like to invite the Prime Minister of Luxembourg Xavier Bettel to visit Kiev, as well as ask the Luxembourg MPs to support Ukraine’s wish to join the European Union (EU), when Ukraine is already a part of the bloc. this,” said Mr. Zelensky.

Several parts of the Donetsk region were hit by rockets

“Several areas of the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine have been hit by rockets continuously. The cities of Bakhmut and Slovyansk are in the areas of shelling,” the head of the Donetsk region’s military government Pavlo Kyrylenko told CNN today (June 2).

“The Russian army is also moving in the Lyman-Izyum direction towards the Slovyansk and Kramatorsk regions, while the highway from Bakhmut to Lysychansk is within range of enemy fire. At least seven people were killed and 10 others injured in the Donetsk region in the past 24 hours,” Kyrylenko added.

Ukraine warns of famine in many parts of the world

“Russia’s blockade of Ukraine’s seaports could lead to a global food crisis, and in some areas to famine,” said Ukraine’s foreign ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko.

“About 22 million tons of Ukrainian grain are stuck in ports and cannot reach buyers, especially countries in Africa and Asia. Meanwhile, the road route cannot solve this problem alone,” added Nikolenko.

According to a spokesman for Ukraine’s foreign ministry, the agency called on Russia “to withdraw its troops from Ukraine’s territorial waters, while providing security guarantees against attacks on ports and ships.”

“We call on the countries whose food security has suffered the most from the war to contact the Moscow authorities to lift the blockade of ports and end hostilities. Ukraine is also discussing with partner countries on ways to set up an international mission under the direction of the United Nations to take over the operation of the sea lanes,” Nikolenko stressed.
