According to AFP news agency, the incident took place near the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen on June 3. A police announcement said that in addition to the four people killed, about 30 people were injured, of which 15 were seriously injured and taken to hospital.

It is not clear who died and whether the train driver was among them.
Photos on social media showed overturned red carriages trapped between tree branches and rolled onto a railway embankment, as well as several people being carried away on stretchers from the scene.

The railway line between Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberau has been cordoned off to assist in rescue operations, while trains from Munich have been diverted to Oberau.
Authorities are continuing to rescue and investigate the cause of this incident.
The incident took place shortly after Germany cut fares across the country from June 1, making trains more crowded.
The accident site is also preparing to host the G7 summit at the end of June 2022, in which US President Joe Biden will attend.
