Prince William and Harry’s opposing expressions at the Platinum ceremony
At noon on June 3, members of the royal family were reunited to participate in the Thanksgiving service that took place at St Paul’s Cathedral. The Queen of England was absent from the event due to health reasons.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle attended the official event with their family for the first time after nearly 3 years leaving the US. Therefore, the focus of attention is on the reunion between the two royal couples: Prince William and the Sussexes.
Even so, the two couples did not have any interaction during the ceremony. Princess Kate and her husband appeared at the event behind the Sussex family. When they sit in the church, they sit in two different rows of seats.
The Duchess of Sussex sat in the second row with Princess Beatrice and Eugenie. Lady Sarah Chatto, daughter of Princess Margaret and her family also shared a row with Meghan and her husband. The couple sat behind the Earl and Countess of Wessex. Meanwhile, Prince Charles and his wife Cambridge were sitting on the other side of the row.
In particular, the contrasting expressions of the two princes became the focus of media attention. Prince Harry, 37, was seen smiling and joking with other members of the royal family. The Duke of Sussex chatted animatedly with Princess Beatrice and Eugenie and their husbands.
Meanwhile, Prince William and Duchess Kate looked tense at Thanksgiving. The Duke of Cambridge rarely smiles. At the end of the ceremony, family members also have time to talk together for a few more minutes.
Two opposing states of princely brothers.
Prince Charles and his wife, Princess Kate, quickly left the church to attend another event. They attended a reception hosted by the Mayor of London Vincent Keaveny. Meanwhile, the Sussexes went to the back and lingered for a few minutes to chat and ask close people.
Prince Harry and his brother have rarely seen each other since the Sussexes moved to the US to build their own careers. The last time the two brothers attended a joint event was when they together unveiled the statue of the late Princess Diana in July last year.
At the time, sources said Prince William was “angry” not wanting to attend the event, following a blockbuster interview with Oprah Winfrey last March. However, in recent times, some inside sources said that the two princes often video call each other to mend their relationship before the Platinum ceremony.
It is not clear whether the two royal couples will attend any other joint events.
