Sega is producing Mega Drive Mini 2
Sega’s next classic console has been confirmed, but for the time being it’s only for the Japanese market.
According to Engadget, Sega is looking to relive the glory of the past by creating a new classic console. The company just announced the Mega Drive Mini 2. Currently the device is only confirmed for the Japanese market, but it looks like Sega will bring it to other markets as well. If the device is available in the US, its name could be Genesis Mini 2.

Mega Drive Mini 2 will include Sega CD games with a list of 50 titles. The full list has yet to be revealed, but will feature CD Sonic the Hedgehog, Virtua Racing and Shining Force CD. There are also Fantasy Zonean arcade title that appeared on the Master System, but was never released on the Mega Drive/Genesis, is also coming to the Mini 2. Game library may vary by country.
Sega says all the classic games have been faithfully recreated. You will also be able to save your gameplay at any time.
The company will release the Mega Drive Mini 2 in Japan on October 27. It will cost 9,980 yen (about 75 USD). Sega is also producing an accessory item that looks like a cute miniature version of the Sega CD accessory. Buyers can attach this accessory to the Mega Drive Mini 1 via an included spacer. The Sega CD’s accessories will cost 4,500 yen (about 37 USD).
The original Genesis Mini had a lot of fans when it was released by Sega in 2019. It has a wide selection of simulation games and features a USB port that allows users to plug in alternate controllers.
