Woman with inverted visceral

As tall as75-year-old patient, going to internal medicine and gastroscopy, found inverted viscera, right heart, left appendix.

Doctors at Cao Bang General Hospital informed this case on June 3 and called it a “rare case”. Patients who are being treated for corneal ulcers, have epigastric abdominal pain, a history of gastritis should be indicated for medical examination and gastroscopy. On examination, the doctor found that her internal organs were reversed, meaning her heart and stomach were on the right side, and her liver, spleen and appendix were on the left side of her body.

Doctor Nong Thi Lan, Head of Cardiology Department, who directly examined, said that in more than 20 years of work, this is the first time she has encountered such a case.

The patient said that he had never been to a doctor before, so he did not know his condition. In 2013, when I went to the doctor, I found out that my heart was on the right side, not the left side as usual, but the doctor said it was not affected. Every day, all her activities and labor still go on as usual.

According to the doctor, the normal person during gastroscopy will lie on the left side, but this patient must lie on the opposite side, on the right side. So the procedure will be more difficult.

The phenomenon of visceral inversion is a condition in which the tissues and organs in the chest and abdomen are reversed to reflect in the vertical plane compared to their normal position. This condition can be complete or only a few organs alone. This is a relatively rare recessive genetic defect, with an incidence of about 1 in 10,000 people. Of which, about 5-10% have congenital heart defects, the rest live a completely normal life, without affecting the patient’s health.
