Carlos Tevez retires at the age of 38

The reason Tevez gave was because he felt no longer inspired to compete after the death of his adoptive father Segundo Raimundo. Mr. Raimundo passed away in February last year from complications from Covid-19.

“Last year was very difficult, but I still saw my father. Now I stop because I have lost my number one fan,” Carlos Tevez shared on America TV channel.

Mr. Segundo Raimundo adopted Carlos Tevez when the striker’s father died before he was born. Last February, Mr. Raimundo contracted COVID-19 and died after struggling with the illness.

“Unfortunately, my father didn’t have the chance to live. It was a difficult time for the whole family. I’ve won 29 titles in my career but still can’t get over this situation,” Tevez shared.

The former Argentinian striker said he gained uncontrollable weight from eating too much after leaving Boca Juniors last June.

“I eat empanada (Argentine fast food) and drink all the alcohol I want. I care less about myself, wake up late and am 3-4 kg overweight. I really don’t want to go back to training.

“In the past I got up at 6am, was the first to get to the training ground and the last to leave. But now I don’t have the strength to do that,” Tevez said.

“I can confirm that I have retired. I received many offers, including from the US. But I gave everything. Having to compete last year was really difficult, but I still can. I met my father. Now I stop playing because I have lost my number 1 fan,” Tevez announced.

Carlos Tevez was born on February 5, 1984 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He has played for many world-famous teams such as Boca Juniors, Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus.

In England, this striker owns a huge collection of titles including 3 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, 1 League Cup and 1 UEFA Champions League with 2 Manchester teams. However, he caused many problems off the pitch, especially the scandal of holding up banners insulting Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson.
