Ho Chi Minh City discovered 111 dengue fever outbreaks, 21 hand, foot and mouth outbreaks

According to a report by the Center for Disease Control of Ho Chi Minh City (HCDC) on June 5, in the first 5 months of this year, the whole city recorded a total of 11,722 cases of dengue fever, an increase of 66.5% with same period in 2021 (7,039 cases).

In which, the number of severe dengue fever cases is 209, an increase of more than 7 times compared to the same period in 2021 (28 cases).

Particularly recorded in week 22 (from May 27 to June 2), Ho Chi Minh City had 1,504 cases of dengue fever, an increase of 329 cases (28%) compared to the average of 4 weeks ago.

Dengue fever cases increased in both inpatient and outpatient hospital admissions. During the week, the city has not recorded any deaths yet. The total number of deaths from dengue fever since the beginning of the year is 7 cases.

Dengue fever cases continue to increase in most districts and Thu Duc city (except District 10). Wards and communes with a higher number of cases compared to the average 4 weeks ago are Ward 5 (District 8); Tan Thoi Nhat ward (District 12); Phuoc Vinh An commune (Cu Chi district).

In week 22, Ho Chi Minh City also recorded 111 dengue fever outbreaks arising in 79 wards and communes in 20/22 districts, Thu Duc city; reduced 10 new outbreaks compared to week 21.

The total number of outbreaks treated with chemical spray in a week was 223 and there were 5 wards and communes dealing with large-scale outbreaks.

Besides dengue fever, the number of hand, foot and mouth disease cases in Ho Chi Minh City in the past week has also increased quite high. In week 22, the city discovered 977 new cases, an increase of 159 cases (19.5%) compared to the average of the previous 4 weeks. Thus, in the first 5 months of the year, the whole city had 4,768 cases of the disease.

The health sector also detected 21 new hand, foot and mouth disease outbreaks in 8 districts (Districts 3, District 7, District 11, District 12, Binh Chanh, Binh Tan, Binh Thanh, Nha Be), an increase compared to last week. 21 (20 outbreaks).

The wards and communes with the highest number of hand, foot and mouth disease cases compared to the average of 4 weeks ago are ward 12 (Tan Binh district), Vinh Loc A commune (Binh Chanh), and Hiep Binh Phuoc ward (Thu Duc city).

The Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC) recommends that Ho Chi Minh City enter the rainy season, the peak of the dengue epidemic. Therefore, in order to limit the risk of an outbreak, each citizen, family, agency and office should take measures to prevent dengue fever, including:

– Spend 10-15 minutes a week to clean up the place of work and living, from inside to around the house, to prevent standing water that causes larva and mosquitoes such as overturning old unused buckets, jars, and bottles. , clean and change the water of flower vases and offerings at least once a week, clean the porch, roof…

– Cover the jars, pools, drums containing water when not in use to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs and generating larvae and mosquitoes.

– For places where water is not used for drinking, activities can release fish to kill larvae.

– Use spray, incense, mosquito repellant cream, wear long-sleeved clothes, sleep under the net even during the day to avoid mosquito bites.
