Follow NBC Philadelphia, Philadelphia police inspector DF Pace said a police officer heard gunshots and then saw several gunmen shooting into the crowd between 2nd and 3rd streets of South Street.
The officer opened fire on one of the suspects. The shooters then dropped their weapons and fled.

Records at the scene showed that at least 14 people were hit by bullets, of which three were killed. One of the guns was left armed with an “expanded magazine”, two other guns were also found at the scene, according to the report. Philadelphia Inquirer.
Two of the three dead victims were a 25-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, seven other victims were taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, of which one died.
5 others were taken to Pennsylvania Hospital, including 1 suspect; while three other victims are being treated at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Respond to the interview of Inquirer, Joe Smith, 23, who was waiting outside the Living Arts theater on South Street, just three meters from the site of the shooting, said: “When it started, I didn’t think it was going to stop. There was a sound. screaming in pain. I only heard screams.”
Mr. Smith said when he heard gunfire, he immediately thought of the recent mass shootings in Uvalde, Texas, Buffalo and New York.
