Mercedes-Benz recalls 1 million cars worldwide due to brake failure

Mercedes-Benz is recalling nearly one million cars worldwide over a possible problem with the brake system.

The German Federal Transport Agency (KBA) said: “Corrosion in the brake booster can, in the worst case, disrupt the connection between the brake pedal and the brake system. As a result, the foot brake may stop working.”

The German Federal Transport Agency estimates that 993,407 vehicles are being recalled worldwide, of which about 70,000 are in Germany.

Mercedes-Benz has confirmed the recall. In a statement sent to AFP news agency, the automaker explained the move was based on “analysis of reports for several vehicle types”.

A Mercedes representative said: “In some cases, severe corrosion can lead to an especially strong or hard braking action that causes the brake booster to be damaged mechanically, the connection between the brake pedal and the brake pedal. brake system will be damaged. In such a very rare case, the vehicle will not be able to decelerate with the foot brake. This increases the risk of collision or injury.”

This can lead to an increase in brake pedal force beyond what is needed to slow the vehicle or increase the braking distance of the vehicle.

The automaker said it would “start with an immediate recall” and contact owners of “potentially affected vehicles”.

The recall process will involve testing potentially affected vehicles and subjecting the test results to replacement of parts as necessary, the company added. We urge customers to stop driving their vehicle until an inspection has been performed.”
