Native American Way of Life Hagood Mill Virtual Field Trip

Thanks to a grant from SC Humanities, we were able to produce this virtual field trip about the way of life of Native Americans. Grandmother Spirit Hawk speaks to students about the 19th century Native American way of life in southern Appalachia. The focus is on the Cherokee people and the material culture of the time, including housing, food routes, hunting tools and use of animals, toys, and resource conservation. Grandmother Spirit Hawk is available for personal excursions upon request and this presentation is one of our most popular offerings! We would like to thank our volunteers from the Youth Leadership Academy who acted in the videos for their service learning. You can purchase additional training material for this video by visiting our website. The slideshow includes goals, related SC standards, lesson points, hands-on activities, extension activities, assessment, bibliography, and additional resources on the topic. The slideshows are not intended to be shared with students but are a resource for the teacher.
