Ukraine wants to receive submarines from Germany

Speaking before a meeting with German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht, the speaker of Ukraine’s parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk stressed that “supplying Ukraine with the most modern equipment” and quick decision-making on this matter will bring ” common victory” closer to Russia.

Stefanchuk expressed hope that the IRIS-T surface-to-air missile systems would be delivered quickly to Ukraine.

“I do not rule out receiving submarines from Germany, because we are ready to become the eastern defensive border for the whole of Europe,” Stefanchuk added.

Meanwhile, Defense Minister Lambrecht stated that Germany “will continue to do everything to support Ukraine, not only at this time but also in the long run”.

In an interview with Welt TV, the speaker of Ukraine’s parliament also reiterated that Kiev needs modern weapons “first and foremost”.

Ukraine also expects Germany to supply both Marder armored vehicles and Leopard tanks, which Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba described last month as Kiev’s “dream”.

Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine has led Germany to abandon its longstanding policy of opposing arms shipments into areas of ongoing conflict and reverse its stance of not providing lethal weapons to Kiev.

Moscow has repeatedly warned the West about pumping weapons into Ukraine, saying this would only prolong the conflict and cause lasting problems. Russia also stated that it considers any foreign weapons in Ukraine a legitimate target.
