According to unofficial results, the People’s Party Cambodia Prime Minister Hun Sen’s ruling CPP won an overwhelming victory at the 5th commune and ward council elections yesterday.

According to the announcement of the National Election Commission of Cambodia, more than 7.1 million voters participated in the 5th commune/ward council election, accounting for nearly 80% of the total number of voters nationwide.

Based on unofficial results, out of 17 political parties participating in the election, the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) of Prime Minister Hun Sen won an overwhelming victory with 1,648/1,652 seats of commune/ward heads across the country. Only 4 seats belong to the Candle Party.

According to the assessment of the Asia-Pacific Center of Democracy, the election took place peacefully and without violence. Winning this election is another important step in promoting reforms in Cambodia to achieve the peace, democracy and development desired by the people.

With this result, the Cambodian people increasingly trust the leadership of the Cambodian People’s Party. This will be the basis for the ruling Cambodian People’s Party to continue to win a great victory in the election for the 7th National Assembly in 2023.
