Finland, Sweden participate in joint military exercises with NATO

Especially participating in this year’s Baltops exercise, two countries are looking to join the NATO military alliance Finland and Sweden.

In addition to Finland and Sweden, the countries sending forces to participate in the exercise include Belgium, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Turkey, the UK and America. Sweden plays the role of the host country of this exercise.

As planned, the meeting NATO exercises on the Baltic Sea lasted from June 5 to 17 with the participation of 7,000 soldiers, 75 aircraft and 45 warships of all kinds.

The two main phases of the exercise include training activities to improve combat capabilities and training in coordination between forces.

NATO says, with the participation of Finland and Sweden, the military alliance is seizing the opportunity in an unpredictable world to increase its strength and resilience.

Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley emphasized that the Baltic Sea is an area of ​​strategic importance, and highly appreciated the interoperability of Finland and Sweden as well as the sharing of information. trust between these two countries with NATO.

“It’s important for us – the US and other NATO countries – to show solidarity with both Finland and Sweden in this exercise,” General Mark Milley said on June 4.

Batltops is an annual exercise that has been held since 1972, bringing together NATO allies and partners to enhance interoperability and increase flexibility among the participants. As close NATO partners, Finland and Sweden have participated in this naval exercise since the mid-1990s.

Baltops 22 is scheduled to end at the German port of Kiel on June 17.

Live training events include air defense operations, anti-submarine warfare, maritime interception, mine countermeasures, amphibious operations, medical response, search and rescue…
