Fire at 10 shops in Muong Thanh market

Dien BienThe fire engulfed and burned 10 stores at Muong Thanh market, the oldest and largest market in Dien Bien Phu city, early in the morning of June 6.

At about 2 a.m., a fire broke out at a shop in Muong Thanh market in Muong Thanh ward, Dien Bien Phu city. Some people who discovered it urged people around to put out the fire and evacuate the furniture in the store next door.

“The furniture inside was stationery, so it burned very quickly. Before we could do much to help, the fire spread to other stores,” a witness said.

Police of fire prevention and rescue and rescue of Dien Bien province mobilized dozens of soldiers and many specialized vehicles to the scene. However, by this time the fire had spread to about 10 other stores.

By 4 a.m., the fire was under control. All 10 shops built of corrugated iron, selling items such as stationery, groceries, votive paper, and rice were burned down.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Chairman of Muong Thanh Ward, said the fire did not cause any loss of life, the total area burned was about 1,000 m2. “The stores all deal in flammable goods, so the fire fighting is difficult. Sometimes the fire that has been extinguished will flare up again. The police are clarifying the cause,” said Mr. Tung.

Muong Thanh is the oldest market in Dien Bien Phu City, also the wholesale market, so business and trade activities take place actively from early morning to late evening.
