Mini gas cylinder explodes, injures 8-year-old boy

The spare mini gas tank was placed near the place where the fish was frying about 2m, and suddenly exploded.

Doctor Du Minh Tri, Head of Examination Department, City Children’s Hospital (HCMC) said, on the morning of June 5, an 8-year-old boy living in Binh Chanh district was taken to the hospital for emergency.

According to the patient’s family, the boy is helping adults fry fish cakes. A spare mini gas tank is placed about 2m away in the sun. Suddenly the gas cylinder exploded, causing the boy’s back to burn. Soon after, the family took the baby to the City Children’s Hospital.

According to Dr. Du Minh Tri, the father and the child were both very stressed and panicked. However, through examination of the wound and film, the doctor noticed a slight burn on the left side of the back. The boy was prescribed medication and monitored for his injuries at home.

The doctor warned, families need to be very careful when using mini gas cylinders. Usually, accidents happen while cooking, gas cylinders explode causing severe injuries to the front area, in some cases having to amputate forearms.

The ominous thing is that in this situation, the mini gas tank that has not been used and left in the sun will also automatically explode.

To ensure safety in cooking with a gas stove, people should protect themselves and their families by purchasing gas cylinders and accessories (pressure regulators, gas pipes, clamps) of reputable business firms. At the same time, it is necessary to regularly check the gas cylinder at home.

For mini gas cylinders, it is recommended to use a bottle with a label and only use it once, then throw it away because reuse is not safe. If the gas stove has peeled paint, the liquid gas cylinder latch or the stove is difficult to ignite, it is best not to use it because there is a risk of gas leaking to the outside, causing a fire or explosion.
