During the consultation Admissions Recently, Hanoi University of Science and Technology answered questions about the thinking assessment exam in 2022.
Sharing about the difficulty level of this year’s exam, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Phong Dien – Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology – affirmed that “certainly, the thinking test will be more difficult than the high school graduation exam”.
The exam is designed on the principle of discouraging over-studying, deviating from learning and giving no opportunity for further study because the scope of knowledge is only within the content of the general curriculum, with high classification. It is not easy for a candidate to get a maximum of 15 points in the Math test.
In addition, unlike the high school graduation exam, the distribution of questions in the thinking test is not sequential by difficulty level – it’s easy to arrange. Therefore, candidates must know how to identify easy questions to do first.
According to Mr. Dien, in 2020, the thinking test will only include Math and Reading Comprehension sections, including essay content to assess candidates’ logical thinking and presentation abilities. By this year, the test will be deployed more comprehensively, as an independent test used for admission, instead of combined with high school graduation exam scores. Therefore, the test score spectrum may not be the same as in 2020.
“But before that, the school also held 2 mock exams and gave the scores for analysis. As can be seen, the score spectrum is very evenly distributed, stretched and balanced at the average score.
The level of the mock exam will be the same as the official exam. Therefore, looking at the score spectrum of the past two exams, it is possible to predict the score of the upcoming thinking test.” – Mr. Dien said.
More than 4,000 candidates successfully registered for the exam
According to the announcement of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, in 2022, the school will spend about 50–60% of the admission target based on a thinking assessment exam. In addition, 20 other universities will also use the results of this test to apply for admission with the number of targets accounting for about 5–30%.
Thus, according to preliminary statistics, schools will recruit about 9,000 students according to the method of admission by thinking tests organized by the school.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Duy Hai – Deputy Head of Admissions Department – informed that after about 10 days of opening the registration portal, more than 4,000 candidates have successfully registered for the exam. Hanoi University of Science and Technology will continue to open the registration system until June 15.
In 2022, the thinking exam of Hanoi University of Science and Technology will be held on July 15, in 5 provinces and cities including Hanoi (Hanoi University of Science and Technology and neighboring schools), Hai Phong. (Vietnam Maritime University), Nghe An (Vinh University), Tuyen Quang (Tan Trao University) and Da Nang (Da Nang Polytechnic University).
The test will take place in 270 minutes, in which, candidates do the compulsory part with Math (15 points) and Reading comprehension (5 points) in 120 minutes.
Elective part 1 includes Natural Science subjects (10 points) exam in 90 minutes. Optional part 2 is English (10 points) test in 60 minutes or can be converted to international certificates such as IELTS.
Candidates are required to take the Math – Reading test in the morning and choose to do either elective or both on the afternoon of July 15.
Recently, there have been many concerns about the tendency of universities to organize their own exams. This will return to the same situation as before, when candidates had to take too many exams, leading to costly and tiring.
However, Mr. Dien believes that situation will not repeat.
“An exam that is properly assessed and designed will be difficult and elaborate. In order to design a highly classified, compact exam, to avoid studying and deviating from school, and to help schools participating in the group be able to recruit the best candidates, especially for programs of high quality. Highly competitive, Hanoi University of Science and Technology has used its previous experience in examinations as well as learning from advanced exams in the world.
Now, candidates can take an exam, but they still have a wide choice outside of the institution. Therefore, an alliance and linkage between schools, together using the same exam results is very necessary. – Mr. Dien confirmed.
