The highest concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere has ever been recorded

This is a warning drawn from a report recently released by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

CO . concentration₂ in the atmosphere last May exceeded 420 ppm. This is more than 50% higher than the pre-industrial revolution and the highest ever.

Professor Petteri Taalas, Secretary General of the World Meteorological Organization, said: “We are constantly witnessing CO . concentrations₂ record high. And this negative trend will continue if we don’t act soon“.

CO₂ is a kind greenhouse gas emissions. This gas lingers in the atmosphere forming a heat trap and causes global warming. CO . gas₂ can persist in the atmosphere and oceans for thousands of years. Causes of CO₂ record highs are caused by humans, especially through fossil fuel-powered electricity generation, transportation, cement production or deforestation.

This causes many serious consequences such as unprecedented heat waves, droughts, wildfires and floods, which in turn will cause serious socio-economic impacts.

Therefore, meteorologists call on people to turn commitments into actions, thereby reducing greenhouse gases.

Professor Petteri Taalas asserts: “At this time, we need to act quickly for our future. If we continue to use fossil fuels indefinitely, the Earth’s temperature could be 4°C higher by the end of this century. And if we act quickly to cut greenhouse gases, the temperature will only increase by 1.5°C .“.

The World Meteorological Organization says that if the disaster caused by climate change is to be avoided, the top priority must be to reduce CO emissions.₂ pollution as soon as possible.
