Operating costs are more economical than before, but electric vehicles still have difficulty in reaching customers due to their higher selling prices than petrol cars in the same segment. To remove this barrier, right from the launch of the first electric car model VF e34, VinFast has chosen an unprecedented way – selling cars without batteries. Accordingly, instead of paying a large amount of money to own a battery, customers only need to pay a monthly fee to subscribe to that battery pack.

In the world, the “subscription economy” model has long been popular in the fields of telecommunications, software, entertainment, music, movies, etc. With its outstanding advantages, this form has recently continued to continue. continues to expand into areas such as food, transportation.

Vietnamese customers are also gradually catching up with this popular consumption trend when they are ready to accept brands that provide services and products in the form of subscriptions such as Spotify, Netflix. The most recent is the electric car battery subscription package from VinFast.

The first benefit of the subscription form compared to buying outright is that customers do not have to “pain in their wallets” but still easily own superior products such as electric cars. To make it easy to imagine, the VF e34 does not come with a battery that costs 690 million VND. If the battery is sold with the car, customers will have to spend about 200 million more.

Currently, all electric car models of VinFast are sold in the form of battery rental. Flexible battery subscription price (VAT included) for 3 models VF e34, VF 8 and VF 9 is VND 657,000, VND 990,000 and VND 1.1 million respectively for a maximum distance of 500 km/month. If exceeded, customers only have to pay an additional VND 1,315, VND 1,980 and VND 2,200 for each additional kilometer, depending on the model.

The Vietnamese car company also takes into account the case that customers have a lot of demand to use the car to add a fixed battery subscription package, the cost is 1,805 million dong, respectively; VND 2,189 million and VND 3,091 million, respectively VF e34, VF 8 and VF 9.

Freed from battery-related risks

If the battery pack is purchased outright, customers will also have to bear the cost of maintenance and replacement. when the battery pack degrades after a long time of use”, Mr. Tuan Hung analyzed.

According to statistics from Recurrent Auto, the cost of replacing a battery pack on a Chevrolet Bolt ranges from $16,000 – $16,250, on a Tesla Model 3 it’s about $15,800 and a Tesla Model S from $12,000 – $22,000. These are all cars that manufacturers sell off batteries to customers. After a long time of use, the battery is aging, the replacement cost will be borne by the customer.

In particular, thanks to a breakthrough battery rental model, manufacturers like VinFast can easily control the number of batteries in circulation to come up with a solution for recycling and safe destruction, without affecting the environment.
