Ancient city “emerges” from the water after the great drought in Iraq

Archaeologists in Iraq recently excavated an ancient 3,400-year-old city after it emerged from the water during a severe drought. This is a city dating back to the Bronze Age, located at an archaeological site called Kamune, and belonged to the Mittani empire – the empire that ruled northern Mesopotamia between 1500 and 1350 BC.

It is known that archaeologists excavated Kemune in 2018 when the site suffered a severe drought and discovered a palace with walls up to 7 meters high, decorated with many murals. During this 2022 drought, the water level in Kamune is once again low enough for scientists to continue research. Their next plan was to map out much of the city, including an industrial production area and a multi-story storage area.
