People are “hot” in their pockets, businesses are also struggling because of gas prices

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Xuyen (Binh Chanh district) shared that her wife’s workplace is about 17km from her home (Tan Binh district), so normally travel costs are quite expensive.

Normally, she spends about 80,000 VND to fill the gas tank of the Sirius FI car for 2-3 days. Now gas price increased to more than 31,500 VND / liter, so even if you pour hundreds of thousands, you have not seen … “tram trem”.

“The price of gasoline increased, so all living expenses increased, while the salary remained the same. Other expenses such as food and food also increased with the price of gasoline. To ensure a living, my family had to change. consumption habits and daily activities, family expenditures will have to be tightened even more, “said Ms. Xuyen.

“I think the State needs to support soon so that petrol prices don’t affect people’s lives,” added Ms. Xuyen.

Workers in poor neighborhoods face more difficulties when wages do not increase but all costs increase, food increases with the increase of gasoline prices…

Due to the epidemic, the economy that has been affected now faces difficulties due to the high price of gasoline, making Mr. Nguyen Trong Hieu, a bus driver on the Bao Loc – Saigon route, even more worried.

“The increase in fuel costs greatly affects the transportation. If the normal price is kept at 180-200,000 VND/pax, if there are no 5-6 guests or more, it will be a loss. If the freight is increased to 250,000 VND, the customer will lose money. less, but choose big sleeper bus companies such as Phuong Trang, Thanh Buoi… Therefore, recently, the bus company has had no trips,” said Mr. Hieu.

In the past May, the Department of Finance coordinated with the interdisciplinary inspection team to organize 50 times to check the listing of prices of market-stabilizing items, and found that the selling points were very strict.

However, purchasing power at the market continued to decrease compared to the previous month, commodity prices increased slightly.

Ong Thi Kim Ngan, Deputy General Director of Thanh Ha Fish Sauce Company Limited, said that from the beginning of the year until now, the price of raw materials has increased rapidly. Never in history has there been such an increase of several hundred percent.

As a unit that produces up to 2 million liters of fish sauce/year, 60% for export, the enterprise understands very well the pressure of increased input costs from raw fish, salt, packaging, and labor; Not to mention the increase in gasoline prices, leading to a galloping increase in shipping charges. Currently, the business has had to increase the selling price of products by about 12-15%.

“The recovery of enterprises after the Covid-19 epidemic takes time and will last for many more years. Therefore, businesses want the State’s policies to focus on stabilizing the macro economy, because Petrol prices have a direct and very rapid impact on the price level,” added Ms. Ngan.

Many businesses are still trying to control prices to stimulate consumer demand

With the pressure from gasoline prices, the price of input materials is trending up, some businesses calculate to increase the selling price of their products, but there are also businesses trying to control the selling price to stimulate consumer demand.

Mr. Truong Chi Thien, General Director of Vinh Thanh Dat Food Joint Stock Company, said that the most recent increase in egg prices in the stabilization program was on April 2. After this price increase, the price of chicken eggs stabilized at 29,500 VND/dozen, duck eggs 35,000 VND/dozen.

“This price is currently lower than the cost of businesses and a big difference compared to the selling price in the market,” Mr. Thien informed.

Food prices also escalate in line with gasoline prices…

According to Mr. Thien, input prices have increased by about 40% compared to June 2021. Currently, 80%-90% of Vinh Thanh Dat’s egg production is sold in supermarkets and shops to stabilize the market.

“With the daily sales volume increasing by at least 50% compared to the number of registrations in the program, we are facing a loss. In a few days, we will also meet to ask the departments to adjust the selling price. If possible If the selling price increases, businesses can break even, continue to fulfill the task of keeping prices and leading the market,” Thien shared.

According to a real survey by Dan Viet, because the selling price of eggs in the market (traditional markets, grocery stores…) is as high as 5,000-6,000 VND/dozen, compared to the stable egg prices in supermarkets, grandmothers Support poured into the supermarket to buy. Therefore, some supermarkets had to limit each customer to only buy 1-2 blisters (10 eggs/blister) to limit the situation of buying together.

In this regard, Mr. Truong Chi Thien explained, because the price of bran, transportation costs, and labor all increased, farmers only dared to re-herd in moderation, causing the egg supply to decrease by 40%-50% over the same period last year. last.

“For egg production and supply enterprises, pressure also comes from skyrocketing shipping and packaging costs. If prices are not adjusted, businesses will not only stabilize losses but also affect market supply. school in the near future” – Mr. Truong Chi Thien shared.

According to data from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Finance, in May, out of 11 popular consumer goods groups, only 2 groups of goods decreased in price, while the rest increased in price.

According to the Department of Finance, by comparing the average prices of retail markets in Ho Chi Minh City, shops and supermarket channels, the prices of businesses participating in the Stabilization Program are always at least 5-10% lower than the market price. %. Such as rice prices 11% lower than market price, poultry eggs 11% lower, cooking oil 10.4% lower, sugar 12.5% lower, poultry meat 12-25% lower, pork lower 13 – 29%…

In another aspect, Mr. Pham Quang Anh – General Director of Dony Garment Co., Ltd. said that the increase in gasoline prices greatly affects the lives of workers.

“When gasoline increases, everything costs increase, from food to other services of life also increase. While businesses are recovering, it is very difficult to increase wages for workers, isn’t it? Any unit can do it”, Mr. Quang Anh said, at the same time, he also expressed his support for the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs’ proposal of an hourly minimum wage.

“This proposal is reasonable, protecting the income of workers, especially freelance and informal workers. Currently, businesses, in addition to recruiting laborers for long-term employment, also use airspace. There are few seasonal workers. Therefore, the hourly regional minimum wage is a control tool to make the income of seasonal workers more stable and secure,” added Mr. Quang Anh.
