Colorful, with MagSafe
After much speculation, Apple has officially revealed the next generation of MacBook Air, using M2 chip, colorful and with MagSafe charger.
Compared to the traditional design of the Air line from the time of Steve Jobs, the MacBook Air M2 has a more square shape. Possessing an 11mm thin body and a weight of 1.2kg, Apple’s supermodel product appears in 4 color versions. Besides the popular silver and space gray, there are also mid-night and star-light shades of gold.
The display screen of the MacBook Air M2 is larger with 13.6 inches near the edge, integrated with a 1080p camera hidden in the top notch (notch), has a brightness of 500 nits and supports the P3 wide color range with 1 billion colors. Due to its smaller size than the MacBook Pro, the MacBook Air’s notch feels a bit big when you’re not used to it.
Regarding the charging port and connection, Apple has added a MagSafe charging port, giving users more freedom with the remaining 2 Thunderbolt ports. The audio jack supports high-impedance headphones, and the full-size TouchID are also interesting improvements.
The biggest change lies in the heart of the device, when Apple uses the latest generation M2 processor. According to the company’s announcement, the new processor increases performance by 1.4 times compared to the M1 depending on the task, of which 38% improved video editing and 20% image editing speed. However, Apple did not detail the test parameters on which applications.
In terms of battery life, Apple offers 18 hours of continuous video playback, a number that needs to be tested in practice to confirm.
In addition to the MagSafe charger of the same color with each model, users can choose up to 3 different chargers: 30W basic charger, 2 USB-C 35W charging and 67W fast charging. Except for the basic charger, if you want to upgrade, customers will have to spend an additional 20 USD or get a free MacBook Air M2 model with configuration version from 1,499 USD or more.
In addition, the keyboard on this model is also redesigned to feel like using the iPad Pro and Magic Keyboard combo.
The MacBook Air M2 starts at $1,199 with 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, and 8-core GPU configuration. Customers can optionally upgrade up to 24GB RAM, 2TB SSD and 10 GPU cores.
