Admission that combines high school graduation exam scores with international foreign language certificates was included in the 2017 enrollment scheme by the first universities and has become more popular since 2018. From where only economic schools apply application, many technical schools have also included this method of admission.

Currently, public security schools such as International Academy, Politics, People’s Public Security, People’s Security, and People’s Police also include international language certificates as one of the admission criteria. University of Medicine and Pharmacy such as Hanoi Medicine, Medicine and Pharmacy in Ho Chi Minh City or Medicine and Pharmacy (Hanoi National University) give priority or apply in combination with candidates with IELTS certificate.

As the first school to introduce IELTS and international foreign language certificates into enrollment, National Economics University said that converting international certificates instead of English scores in combinations with this subject helps schools choose many qualified candidates by international certificates of higher prestige and quality.

Master Tu Pham, head of the IPP IELTS center, said that using IELTS in admissions helps universities share the same language entry standards as regional and international schools. “IELTS has both Speaking and Writing, so the assessment of students’ skills is more comprehensive than the national high school graduation exam,” Tu said.

However, the inclusion of IELTS and other international certificates for admission also makes many people worry about causing inequality between rural and urban candidates because this certificate is more popular in big cities like Hanoi. , Ho Chi Minh City.
