In its second week of release, the action movie Top Gun: Maverick Tom Cruise grossed $86 million from 4,751 theaters in North America. The work ranked in the top 10 of the highest-grossing second weekend movies in domestic box office history.

Top Gun: Maverick grossed $291 million in North America, enough to surpass the movie War of the Worlds released in 2005 ($243 million), becoming Cruise’s highest-grossing film ever at the domestic box office.

Thanks to positive word of mouth, rave reviews, and high-profile screenings, ticket sales for Top Gun: Maverick down just 32% from its $160 million US debut during the long Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Before that, blockbusters like Top Gun: Maverick, which tends to drop at least 50% after its second weekend premiere. For comparison, recent big-budget commercials Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness of Marvel all dropped 67% in their second weekend, while The Batman by Robert Pattinson 50% off.
