Reasons to avoid showing off that you’re traveling

In a survey in the UK, one in 12 people was visited by a thief after posting a photo of themselves traveling online.

British financial expert Holly Bennett said travelers need to be careful with what they post on social media, especially when traveling and tag the location they visit. That is no different than an affirmation to hundreds of people that your house is vacant and invites thieves to visit.

In a survey in the UK, one in 12 people was stolen after posting pictures of going out on the internet. In the event that you purchase insurance and claim for theft, insurance will review the record. If they see pictures of you hanging out online, this could be their reason for refusing to compensate. Because this theft can be considered the fault of the guest.

Travel insurance company ABTA also issued a warning: “Pay attention to what you write, or vacation photos. Those are the things that can identify you away from home.”

Besides, taking a photo of the ticket stub and posting it on social media to show it off is also considered risky action. Lisa Forte, a cybersecurity expert, said that from the barcode on the ticket, the bad guy can get a lot of personal information of the ticket holder. You may be exposed to your date of birth, passport or ID card number, phone number, email address, ATM or visa card, flight, boarding time, departure airport, destination, seat number by Passenger Name Record (PNR) reservation format code.

The PNR also shows any special service requests (SSRs) such as meals, reasons for choosing or avoiding certain dishes, your health condition: disability, psychological, medical problems that you claim notice when buying tickets…

“For example, you are the bad guy, and I am the victim. You know I am flying from London to Bangkok on British Airways. My return flight is next Monday. I am flying economy class, ordered a vegetarian meal. “, Lisa gives an example.

The bad guy then created a fake email from the airline and sent it to the customer with the content: “If you also want a vegetarian meal for the return trip, please click this link to order now.” or “Your flight back to London is overbooked. Since you’re an important customer, we’d like to upgrade you to business class, please click the link below to enjoy the offer”.

Many passengers are deceived, click on the link to the website to steal their information and then bad things will happen like losing money, losing account… And showing off your plane ticket is the same as posting it. a travel photo, it will have the content to notify the bad guys that you are not at home.

And if you still want to share your trip itinerary, it’s best to do so after you’ve returned home. Or else, make it private, so only people who are friends can see it, instead of everyone.
