Russia prosecutes a series of officers sending conscripts to Ukraine
Russia prosecuted more than 10 military officers after hundreds of conscripts were sent to Ukraine, against President Putin’s request.
“According to the monitoring results of the Western Military District, about 600 conscripts have been sent to Ukraine to participate in a special military operation. All have returned as soon as possible,” prosecutor Arthur Yegiev told the Supreme Court. institute Russia today.
Yegiev said that in addition to the officers charged, military officials overseeing the matter have faced disciplinary action, including removal from the army, but did not elaborate.

President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly denied that Russia uses conscripts in Ukraine, claiming that only soldiers and professional servicemen are sent to this battlefield. However, the Russian Defense Ministry in March admitted that some conscripts had been “wrongly dispatched” to Ukraine.
The issue of conscripts participating in the war is very sensitive in Russia. The Russian Defense Ministry said in late March that 1,351 Russian soldiers had been killed in Ukraine, but has so far not released new figures.
Several associations representing the mothers of Russian soldiers have expressed concern about conscripts being sent to combat without adequate training.
Russia launched a “special military operation” from February 24 to “demilitarize and de-fascist” Ukraine. Fighting is currently taking place mainly in the Donbass region, where Russian forces are considered to have an advantage over the enemy thanks to superior artillery fire.
