The price of colored feathered chickens doubled

Surveys in 3 regions show that the price of colored feathered chickens in the North and South is increasing by 8,000 VND, to 59,000-60,000 VND per kg. Meanwhile, in the Central region, prices fluctuated from 54,000 to 57,000 VND, an increase of 6,000 VND compared to the previous month.

Mr. Hoang, the owner of a chicken farm in Dong Nai, said last year the price of colored chickens fell below cost, so he reduced the flock by 50%, making the supply to the market this year less than every year.

Chicken farms in Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc also decreased sharply due to losses. Many other colored chicken farms have switched to processing industrial chickens for foreign companies because the price of this type of chicken is stable and more profitable.

Talk to VnExpressLe Van Quyet, Vice Chairman of the Southeast Poultry Breeding Association, said there were three reasons why the price of colored chickens doubled over the same period.

Firstly, due to a sharp decrease in supply in the market, farmers suffered losses last year, so this year, the amount of restocking has decreased, while purchasing power has increased. The second is the sudden increase in the price of animal feed, pushing the cost of raising a colored chicken to double digits.

The last reason, according to Mr. Quyet, is that frozen chicken on the world market has also become scarce and scarce, so the amount of goods exported to Vietnam has decreased, and there are months when there are no imports.

“In the future, chicken prices may increase because the supply cannot immediately compensate,” Quyet predicted.

According to statistics, the export value of livestock products in the first 5 months of the year was estimated at 139 million USD, down 16.2% over the same period in 2021. The import value of livestock products in May reached about 294 $3.5 million, bringing the total import value of livestock products in the first five months of this year to $1.3 billion, down 13.7% over the same period last year.
