Session 1: Going to India to visit her boyfriend, 8X Vietnamese was overwhelmed by the 20,000m2 property

Be the bride of a rich man

Before meeting Porithosh Shetty (44 years old) through a dating app in 2019, Ms. Do Thi Y (36 years old, from Hanoi) was a nurse in Ho Chi Minh City. On April 23, the couple got married at the 20,000 square meter resort of Porithosh Shetty’s house in Bangalore, India.

Traditionally in many Indian families, after the wedding, the woman usually stays at home, taking care of the family. But in Porithosh Shetty’s house, Italy didn’t have to touch anything.

“There are more than 10 maids in the house, most of them are men. One of them is a cook, a male cook, a house cleaner, a dishwasher, a gardener, and a dog person (in the husband’s house). I love animals very much, so I raise a lot of cats and dogs), people raise cows to drink milk, iron clothes, people make flowers to worship. My mother-in-law is undergoing cancer treatment, so one more nurse takes care of and sleeps with her. 24/24”, Ms. Y said.

Every day, after waking up at 8-9 a.m., Ms. Y is helped to serve Indian traditional hot milk tea (known in India as Chai). While she drank Chai, the maid served breakfast.

“My husband’s family usually has breakfast with fruit juice (which season is the fruit). After having breakfast for about 30 minutes, I go to the gym at the family gym. Around 2:00 pm, the whole family has lunch. At noon at home. I usually eat rice with curries of all kinds such as: chicken curry, seafood curry… In the evening, people don’t eat rice, only drink milk and fruit. My family raises cows for milk to use, the rest is left by people. Help bring it to the front door of the sale in the afternoon”, 8X Hanoi shared.

A meal at Y’s husband’s house

In all meals at home, the Porithosh Shetty family says no to beef dishes. When eating, the whole family eats with the right hand. Her mother-in-law was afraid that Italian sister would eat with unfamiliar hands, so she often reminded her to eat with chopsticks and spoon. But Ms. Y said: “In India and eating Indian food, I want to eat with my hands like everyone else to feel the best about the food and culture of my husband’s country”. “After that, my mother often praised me for eating with good hands and she was very happy,” Ms. Y added.

Knowing that Italian sister likes to eat seafood, her mother-in-law ordered her daughter-in-law from the coastal city of Mangalore from her hometown. She also always said, you just dress and do what you feel most comfortable. In the house, she treats her sister as her daughter.

However, there are also a few points, when living in a rich husband’s house, she is forced to pay attention. Ms Y said: “During the time I lived at my husband’s house, sometimes on the way, I would enter the house through the door behind the kitchen. Seeing that, her mother-in-law called her back and said: “Next time, don’t go to the back door of the kitchen, but go to the front door”. When I asked why, my mother-in-law explained that the door behind the maid went. I’m the owner of the house, going to the main door.”

Porithosh Shetty’s house has 3 kitchen areas, including 1 kitchen located inside the house, 2 kitchens outside the house. The maid will cook in 2 outside kitchens, the other kitchen is used by family members.

Ms. Italy eats rice with her husband’s family, but every meal, she often boils a plate of vegetables, soup or makes a salad to serve. Sometimes, for dinner, she also cooks Vietnamese dishes for the couple to enjoy.

Seeing his wife in the kitchen, Porithosh Shetty hugged and kissed her again and asked if she needed anything. He also reminded the maid to pick up onions and garlic and prepare spices for her to process. When his wife needed Vietnamese spices, he bought them with ease or told the driver to buy them by any means. “The seasoning bought here is not as standard as in Vietnam, but it’s fine,” Ms. Y confided about her life in her husband’s hometown.

Party nights

According to the outlined plan, Porithosh Shetty and Ms. Italy will enjoy a married life until the end of 2022. In 2023, the couple will focus on children.

“The couple both experienced broken marriages but never had children. I told my husband, next year, if I leave it alone for 6 months without getting pregnant, I will do IVF. I immediately agreed,” said Ms. Y.

Ms. Italy is having happy days, being taken by her husband to travel around India.

Currently, Ms. Italy is enjoying extremely happy days. “I always say thank you for coming to me and making my life better. Afraid that I will be sad, miss Vietnam, he always told me, I can visit my family at any time, but each time I go for no more than 3 weeks because I will miss my wife, “said Ms. Y happily.

Porithosh Shetty is an entrepreneur (managing the family’s private hospital and wedding resort business). So he has quite a few friends. Every time he party with friends, Porithosh Shetty brings his wife with him. This brings joy but also challenges for Ms.

According to her, friends and partners of Porithosh Shetty, whether male or female, greet each other when they meet. At first, she was uncomfortable with it, but gradually got used to it. Parties usually take place late at night, there are days when Italy and her husband have to attend 2 or 3 parties, so they go home at 2, 3 am.

Fortunately, her husband’s family has a modern mindset, her mother-in-law is psychological, so the next morning, Ms. Italy does not have to get up early. She also does not have to wear traditional clothes like many other Indian sisters-in-law.

“Many Vietnamese women in India find themselves posting photos of themselves wearing short skirts, even bikinis, and are very surprised. Because in many rural areas, women have to wear traditional clothes, inside they have to wear a pair of tight pants. But my husband’s family didn’t ask for it,” said Italy proudly.

The experiences of being a bride made Italy more confident in her decision to follow her husband to live in India. She confided: “Before I met Porithosh Shetty, I heard many negative stories in this country. But when I lived here, I realized that India has a lot of interesting things that I didn’t know when I was in Vietnam.”
