The signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding to implement the initiative between Amazon Global Selling Vietnam and the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy (iDEA) – Ministry of Industry and Trade took place this morning (June 8) in Hanoi. The program is expected to last for 5 years with training activities, both face-to-face and online throughout the country. Participating in the program, Vietnamese businesses and young human resources will be trained with 20+ courses with diverse content such as: cross-border e-commerce, market research, product portfolio building, registration and brand protection, sales process on Amazon.

Mr. Gijae Seong, CEO of Amazon Global Selling Vietnam shared: “Through this initiative, businesses are equipped with specialized knowledge in import and export, capture market information, thereby improving improve the quality of human resources, and at the same time, this is also a trade bridge between Vietnamese and international businesses, step by step building a brand name for Vietnamese goods in the world market.”

In parallel, Amazon released the report “Local Sellers, Global Consumers: Export Trends through E-commerce in Vietnam” to help Vietnamese businesses have an objective view of the trend. export through e-commerce. The AlphaBeta Market Research and Consulting Company conducted a survey and analysis on Vietnam’s online export potential, the perspective of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and barriers obstacles and challenges they are currently facing. At the same time, the Report also gives suggestions on how to support MSMEs on their export journey to the world.

According to the report, Vietnam’s cross-border (B2C) retail sales is estimated to grow by over 20% per year, reaching VND 75.4 trillion (US$3.3 billion) in 2021 and is expected to reached 256.1 trillion VND (11.1 billion USD) by 2026. This report states that, if “B2C e-commerce” is considered as an export industry, it will be the dominant export industry. 5th in Vietnam within the next 5 years.

88% of businesses surveyed in Vietnam consider e-commerce very important in their export activities, and at the same time, cross-border online retail sales will be higher than domestic online retail sales.

Besides development opportunities, export turnover growth and potential market expansion thanks to cross-border e-commerce, there are still shortcomings for Vietnamese enterprises on the main issues: Information, Capacity, Cost, Regulation.

The survey from the report also showed that 80% of enterprises said they lacked information about relevant regulations of the foreign market. 85% of businesses surveyed said that they face barriers to competitiveness in the region and globally. Besides, 81% of enterprises admitted that they were not prepared to meet the preferences and psychology of foreign consumers.

The report “Local Sellers, Global Consumers: Export Trends through E-commerce in Vietnam” wishes to provide a practical perspective for authorities and policy makers. , industry associations and enterprises in the industry offer comprehensive support solutions for exporters via e-commerce.
