Australia accelerates visa issuance for foreign workers

This decision comes amid a backlog of thousands of visa applications to Australia, while domestic businesses face a shortage of skilled workers.
Many Australian employers say there are many barriers to finding skilled foreign workers, including the “too high” cost of visas.
Employers can expect to pay the equivalent of $17,500 to get a visa for a skilled foreign worker, more than double what it was 10 years ago. Meanwhile, the processing time is longer.
Delays in visa issuance for foreign workers have forced many domestic businesses to close because of insufficient staff and thus inability to maintain operations.
