Bus plunges off cliff in Pakistan, car crashes into crowd in Germany

The accident happened in Qilla Saifullah district in Baluchistan province, Pakistani government official Mohammad Qasim told AP. Rescuers transported the bodies to a nearby hospital. Mr. Qasim added that there appeared to be no survivors.

Relatives of 22 passengers who died are coming to the hospital to receive the body. The exact cause of the crash is under investigation. Police are looking into the possibility of a technical glitch or human error.

A witness named Abdul Ali told the AP that he was riding a motorbike when he saw the bus going very fast. The driver then lost control, causing the bus to fall into a ravine at an altitude of 1,572 meters.

People from a neighboring village quickly alerted the police and they rushed to the scene. Ali also joined the rescue, helping to bring the bodies to the hospital by ambulance.

Qillah Saifullah is located about 200 km north of Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province.

Pakistani President Arif Alvi and other government officials offered condolences over the tragic accident and ordered authorities to transport the bodies of the passengers back to their families.

In another development, a passenger train derailed in eastern Iran on June 8, killing at least 21 people and injuring 47.

The train, carrying about 350 people, traveled from Tabas, about 550 km southeast of the capital Tehran, to the city of Yazd. It hit an excavator while going through a tunnel in the countryside.

“The passengers were thrown like balls in the air,” an injured passenger told Iranian state TV.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi offered condolences for the accident and announced an investigation to find out the cause.

Driving in Berlin

At least one person was killed and 12 injured after a car plowed into a crowd of pedestrians at the famous shopping district Tauentzienstrasse in Berlin – Germany on the morning of June 8 (local time). Police said the driver of the car was arrested.

A Berlin police spokesman told ABC News the motive was not clear and it was not certain whether the incident was terrorism-related.

The scene is located near Breitscheidplatz, a public square in Berlin where 13 people were killed after an extremist deliberately rammed a truck into a 2016 Christmas market.
