China temporarily opens the door for Vietnamese passion fruit

Talking privately with reporters on the sidelines of the forum, Mr. Thiet said that China has approved the import of passion fruit into Guangdong province (through the border gates of Lang Son and Quang Ninh provinces) in a pilot form.

In terms of general conditions, passion fruit must come from an area with a growing area code, with a packing code, and must be pest-free and meet food safety. Enterprises wishing to export this item need to contact the Plant Protection Department for registration and guidance. This is a fruit with great potential in China, which can bring high export value.

“China is the number 1 import market of Vietnamese fruit and they are increasing online inspection for growing areas, packing facilities that have been granted codes, especially items such as dragon fruit, mango, watermelon, etc. and have recorded a few cases of failure, especially the criteria on Covid-19 control.

Therefore, growing areas, packing facilities, businesses and localities must pay close attention to comply with regulations because China will only notify 3-5 days in advance. When detecting violations, depending on the extent, the import may be temporarily suspended, affecting the consumption of agricultural products, “- Mr. Thiet emphasized.

Passion fruit is an emerging fruit with high economic efficiency

At the forum, Mr. Doan Ngoc Co, Deputy Director of Gia Lai Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said passion fruit is one of the four key fruit trees of the province and has the largest area in the country with 4,000 hectares. This is a crop with high economic efficiency, profit from 350-400 million VND/ha.

According to the Department of Cultivation, passion fruit is in the top 10 fruit trees with the highest export value in 2021. In 2022, the output of passion fruit is estimated at 135,000 tons, concentrated in Gia Lai and Dak Lak.
