Europe strengthens its commitment to the Indo-Pacific

The complicated development of the war in Ukraine and the growing multifaceted threats and competition among the great powers make the European Union’s goal of becoming a capable partner affected not only in the region but also in the region. strategic area Indian Ocean – Pacific Ocean but on a global scale.

With 474 votes in favor, 60 against and 80 abstentions, the European Parliament passed a Resolution updating challenges and solutions in the Indo-Pacific Strategy.

Accordingly, Europe prioritizes increasing its naval presence; ensuring security and safety for maritime routes in the Indo-Pacific; at the same time, expand relations with other countries and participate more deeply in the activities of cooperation organizations and forums in the region.

With ASEAN countries, the EU commits to support ASEAN’s central role and inclusive multilateral structure, considers ASEAN a top priority partner, and wishes to work with ASEAN to establish coordination mechanisms on security, international room, thereby expanding the EU’s presence in the region.

The European Parliament’s new resolution on the European Union’s Indo-Pacific strategy also proposes sending military advisers to the EU’s delegations in ASEAN countries and prioritizing the establishment of the European Union.
