Expectations to attract young business customers of Toyota Corolla Altis 2022

The Corolla Altis – the once durable sedan ‘icon’ of middle-aged Vietnamese people, has now built up dozens of technologies, hoping to conquer a group of young users.

More than 25 years of presence in Vietnam is enough time for Corolla Altis to have a solid position in the market. Launched for the first time in 1996, this is the first model released by Toyota Vietnam factory, laying the foundation for the development of the domestic auto industry. At that time, the concept of cars was still limited to sedans, where the Altis was a symbol, used from all over the state agencies to the people.

The period 2008 – 2013 was the time when Corolla Altis was most popular with Vietnamese people, sales were often at the top of the best-selling car models of the year. But in the past few years, the trend of favoring high-rise cars has made Corolla Altis gradually lose its throne, and sales have decreased.

Entering the completely new 12th generation, Toyota Vietnam added a series of “spices”, making this model more eye-catching with the group of users who prefer C-class sedans.

The first is the version number. The car has three versions, imported directly from Thailand, 5 exterior color options, 2 interior color options, targeted at groups of customers with different needs. Corolla Altis 1.8G costs 719 million VND for people with basic and practical needs. Corolla Altis 1.8V priced at 765 million VND – more equipment, serving the majority of customers.

The most advanced Corolla Altis 1.8HEV 860 million VND – using an environmentally friendly hybrid engine, for a group of users who love to experience new technologies.

As a completely new generation, Corolla Altis is generously equipped with leading technologies by the Japanese company. The car uses the modular TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) global platform, redesigning the entire transmission and chassis system. This platform helps the car have a low center of gravity, limiting the impact of twisting and twisting the body, improving the driving feeling. This is also a premise to help Toyota develop a new suspension system, increasing the smoothness compared to the old version.

Operating in everyday urban environments, the new Corolla Altis clearly shows the upgrades compared to the previous generation. TNGA helps the driver have better visibility thanks to the compact A-pillar, the lowered instrument panel and the position of the rearview mirror located on the door. The smoothness and soundproofing are also significantly improved, especially on the hybrid version, even comparable to the Camry senior in the upper segment.

Size – one of the strengths of the previous Corolla Altis continues to be maintained. In the second row, the legroom reaches 974 mm (from the back of the seat to the B column), quite comfortable for a 1.72 m tall person. The backrest and spacious armrests in this row are also optimally designed by the Japanese company, creating a sense of comfort for the user.

A “poor option” Corolla Altis is now gone. In the most advanced version, Toyota’s C-sized sedan can satisfy technology-loving users with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto entertainment systems wirelessly connected, through a 9-inch touch screen. Additional support is a 6-speaker JBL system, a HUD screen displaying information on the windshield, privacy curtains for the rear seats…

The technological quality of the C-class sedan is also reflected in a series of leading safety equipment in the segment. On the Corolla Altis 1.8V and 1.8 HEV versions, the Japanese company is equipped with the Toyota Safety Sense safety package, which includes a series of functions such as: PCS pre-collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keeping assist LTA & LDA, DRCC Active Cruise Control, AHB Automatic High Beam…

In the most advanced version, users will have additional tire pressure warning, blind spot warning on BSM mirrors, cross-traffic alert when reversing RCTA and HUD screen displaying information on the windshield. Thanks to the TNGA platform, the Corolla Altis has a chassis design that absorbs impact forces from the front, side and rear, helping to optimize passenger safety inside the cabin.

In the 1.8G standard version, there is VSC electronic balance, EBD electronic brake force distribution, TRC traction control and HAC horizontal departure support. Electronic handbrake with automatic brake hold mode is available on all three versions.

The engine is the biggest change on the new generation Corolla Altis. For the first time, Toyota sold a hybrid version in the C-segment sedan segment in Vietnam. Corolla Altis 1.8HEV uses 1.8 gasoline engine (code 2ZR-FXE) with a capacity of 97 horsepower, 142 Nm of pulling power combined with an electric motor with a capacity of 71 horsepower, a pulling power of 163 Nm. The car has a combined fuel consumption of 4.3 liters / 100 km, according to the announcement from the company. This is the engine block being equipped on the Corolla Cross 1.8 HEV.

In terms of operation, the hybrid engine is strong but still smooth, quiet, fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly. CO2 emissions are reduced by 1.5 – 2 times compared to vehicles using traditional internal combustion engines. “Because it does not require special infrastructure, this vehicle is suitable for domestic traffic conditions, contributing to mitigating climate change and the environment,” a representative of the company said. “Hybridization is the strategy Toyota is promoting in Vietnam”.

In addition to the Corolla Altis 1.8HEV, this company currently has two lines of hybrid vehicles in Vietnam, the Corolla Cross 1.8HEV and the Camry 2.5HEV.

The engine on the G and V versions remains unchanged from the old generation, type 1.8 but has been tweaked to meet Euro 6 emission standards instead of Euro 4 as before. Vehicle capacity reaches 138 horsepower at 6,400 rpm, maximum torque of 172 Nm at 4,000 rpm. CVT automatic transmission and front-wheel drive on all three versions.

In addition to the factors that can be measured in numbers, it is hard to deny the influence of the Toyota brand on Vietnamese users, typically Corolla Altis. Durability, low cost of use, ease of resale, and a nationwide dealer network are the factors that help Toyota maintain its leading position in the Vietnamese car market.
