As expected, Apple will introduce iPhone 14 models in September and this version will still use the familiar Lightning charging port. However, it is more likely that the iPhone 15″ Launched in 2023 will be equipped with a charging port USB-COL. This change is to meet the requirements of the European Union charging port standard.

Specifically, on June 7, European Union (EU) countries and EU legislators agreed on a common charging port for mobile phones, tablets and headphones.

The EU requires electronic devices including phones, tablets, headphones, portable speakers, game consoles, cameras to be equipped with USB-C charging standards to reduce e-waste due to excess cables and charger. In addition to the charging port, manufacturers also have to make fast charging standards that can be used crosswise.

This change is aimed at protecting the environment, reducing waste and saving consumers. Under this pressure, Apple is said to be testing iPhones equipped with a USB-C connector, expected to be released in 2023.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the 2023 iPhone will abandon the Lightning port and switch to using a USB-C charging port to improve data transfer speeds and increase charging capacity for iPhones. In addition, through the USB-C port, connecting iPhone to other products such as the new Mac or iPad also becomes easier.

“USB-C-related components suppliers in Apple’s ecosystem will become the focus of the market in the next 1-2 years” – Ming-Chi Kuo said.
