Loewe celebrates craftsmanship with new handbag project-Fashion Trends

In 2019, Loewe presented the handbag knitting project at the Salon del Mobile in Milano, one of the largest furniture fairs in the world. Recruiting 11 artists from around the world, the house used creative techniques for a collection of looks.

Now, after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Loewe is back at Salon del Mobile with her new project Weave, Restore, Renew. Emphasizing evolution and transformation, Creative Director Jonathan Anderson has brought a meaningful collection that brings new life to discarded and forgotten objects.

Using age-old techniques, Loewe celebrates the value and history of his works and focuses on preserving them for the future. The new collection is based on an undeniable respect for both the product and the environment and celebrates the regenerative power of craft.

The creation of the collections revolves around the age-old techniques of Coroza and Jiseung. Coroza’s ancient Galician technique was used to create a range of bags and handbags with distinctive tassels that make the accessories practical and unique. Loewe also used the Korean Jiseung technique in partnership with Young Soon Lee, one of the Loewe Foundation Crafts Award Finalists in 2019, to weave paper and newspapers, recycled into a range of tote bags and jars.

Artisans Idoia Cuesta, Belén Martínez, Santiago Besteiro, Juan Manuel Marcilla have repaired and re-welded 240 existing handbags, using leather straps for a series of unique and playful baskets, rewinding the idea of ​​wear and tear. . The new collection includes a host of forgotten designs, transforming them into new pieces that are both stylish and sustainable.
