Passenger car plunged into a ravine in Pakistan, 22 people were killed

A passenger car crashed into a ravine in southwestern Pakistan, killing at least 22 people, including nine members of the same family.

According to Reuters, the accident happened today (June 8), on the Quetta – Zhob highway in Killa Saifullah district.

Authorities said at least 22 people were killed at the scene. Rescue work is still underway. The cause of the accident is still unknown, but it is highly likely that the driver was speeding.

“We found at least 22 victims who died on the spot, many of them women and children. The saddest part is that there is a family of 9 members who died in this accident. Currently working. Rescue is still underway, one injured person has been transported to Quetta Civil Hospital in a critical condition,” said official Hafiz Qasim.

After the incident, Pakistani President Arif Alvi sent condolences to the families of the victims. He asked the functional forces to hand over the bodies of the dead as quickly as possible for post-mortem.

Fatal traffic accidents are not uncommon in Pakistan due to poor road conditions in many mountainous and rural areas. In July 2021, a bus collided with a container truck in central Pakistan, killing 33 people.
