On June 6, the Court in Osaka (Japan) issued a first-instance judgment against Cruz Cabrera Brian Alberto (27 years old), a Dominican nationality – the perpetrator in the case of a young man from Vietnam. Vietnam TTA name was pushed into the river to die in August 2021.
According to the judgment, Cruz Cabrera Brian Alberto beat and kicked TTA – a Vietnamese national (then 21 years old) in Minami, Osaka and pushed him into the Dotonbori River. The young man later died from drowning.

During the trials from May 16 until now, Alberto has denied the allegations, repeatedly asserting that his behavior was self-defence: “I just want to defend myself to save my life”. The defendant’s defense lawyer also said that the victim was the first to act.
The court ruled: “Initially, it was a legitimate defense but even after the defendant counterattacked and the victim was exhausted, Alberto continued to assault and push the victim into the river. It was a violent attack.”.
Cruz Cabrera Brian Alberto was sentenced to 12 years in prison, lower than the previously recommended 18-year prison sentence by the prosecutor’s office. The defendant can still continue to appeal to the appellate court.

Previously, at 20:20 on August 2, 2021, at the Ebisu bridge riverside pedestrian area (Osaka city, Chuo district, Shinsaibashisuji 2-4), a young Vietnamese man was beaten and kicked into the Dotombori River. and didn’t make it. The incident happened in a crowded area, with many people passing by, but the victim was still brutally assaulted and died.
