On June 8, the People’s Court of An Giang province tried defendant Tran Phuoc Tan (40 years old, living in Cho Moi district) on charges of “murder” and “rape of people under 16 years old”.
Tan is a subject with a previous conviction for the crime of “child rape”, after serving an 11-year prison sentence, he returned to the locality.
According to the indictment, in November 2021, defendant Tan drove his wife home to visit Phu My town, Phu Tan district.
After that, he went to NHD’s house to drink, at this time Tan knew that V. (12 years old, his daughter D.) wanted a phone to study online. Tan pretends to promise to buy a phone for the girl.
On the afternoon of November 6, Tan went to the house to take baby V. to buy a phone. He took the girl to the motel and then committed rape. The next morning, Tan went to his friend’s house to drink again. At this time, Tan knew that the family was looking for V., so he had the intention to kill the girl to hide his bad behavior.
He took the girl to Nui Ket (Tinh Bien district) and killed the victim.
On the way to escape, Tan arrived at the Chau Giang ferry area, Chau Doc city, and was arrested.
The trial panel sentenced defendant Tran Phuoc Tan to death for murder; 14 years in prison for the crime of raping a person under 16 years old. The total punishment for defendant Tan is the death penalty.
