US adds 4 tourist destinations to “high” risk list

Level 4, formerly the highest-risk list, is now reserved for special circumstances only, such as an extremely high number of cases, the emergence of a new variant of concern, or a collapse of the health care system. Under the new rating system, so far no destination has been rated at level 4.

The “Level 3: High COVID-19 Risk” category currently applies to countries with more than 100 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents in the last 28 days.

New tourist destinations listed as Level 3 on June 6 in the US include Guyana, Mongolia, Namibia, Kitts and Nevis. All of the above locations were previously level 2.

In total, there were about 115 Level 3 destinations as of 6/6. Level 3 sites currently account for nearly half of the approximately 235 sites monitored by the US CDC.

Many other popular tourist destinations are also on the tier 3 list. From June 6, the following popular European destinations are among the rest of the tier 3 list: France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, United Kingdom

Besides the favorites in Europe, many other notable travel destinations around the world are on the US high-risk list, including Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica, Malaysia, South Korea, and Thailand. .

Destinations on the “Level 2: Medium COVID-19 Risk” list reported between 50 and 100 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents in the last 28 days. Only two locations were moved to this level on June 6, Guatemala and Zimbabwe. Lake Atitlán in Guatemala was level 3 last week. Meanwhile, Safari destination Zimbabwe in South Africa has been moved from level 1 to level 2.

There were about 15 destinations listed on the level 2 list as of 6/6.

To be on the “Level 1: Low COVID-19 Risk” list, a destination must have 49 or fewer new COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents in the last 28 days. Only two destinations added to this list on the 66th were Iran and Lebanon. Both of these Middle Eastern countries were level 2 last week.
