What’s so special about the locality with the average income ranked 47th out of 63 provinces and cities in the top 10 in terms of car ownership?

According to information from Vietnam Registry DepartmentIn 2021, the number of passenger cars with 9 seats or less purchased and registered by Vietnamese consumers for the first time reached 318,704 vehicles of all kinds. Topping the percentage of consumers buying cars the most is Hanoi with 50,928 cars.

Second is the city. HCM with 32,403 vehicles; the third is Hai Phong with 16,996 vehicles; fourth is Nghe An with 14,628 vehicles and fifth is Binh Duong with 11,096 vehicles. Thanh Hoa with 10,963 cars, ranked 6th.

When these data are published, Nghe An This is a surprising locality when it is not a province with high income but buys a lot of cars. However, the number of car purchases in 2021 may not accurately reflect car purchases by the percentage of households owning cars in the localities.

In terms of the percentage of households owning a car the most according to the 2019 General Statistics Office’s Housing Census, Nghe An is still in the top 10, ranking higher than Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City, ranked 11th.

According to the preliminary results of the 2020 Population Living Standards Survey of the General Statistics Office, Nghe An ranked 47th in terms of living standards. average income per capita with 3,004 million VND/person/month. However, Nghe An ranks above Binh Duong, the province with the highest average income in the country, in terms of car ownership.

In terms of geographical location, Nghe An is the largest province in Vietnam, in the North Central region. According to the 2019 Population and Housing Census report, Nghe An province has the fourth largest population in the country with 3,327,791 people, of which 1,672,901 are male, 1,654,890 female.

Nghe An’s population is only behind Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City 8,993,082 people, Hanoi 8,053,663 people and Thanh Hoa 3,640,128 people. Compared with the survey 10 years ago (2009), Nghe An’s population increased by 415,930 people, equivalent to an average population growth rate of 1.33%.

The report at the online conference of the Government Standing with localities showed that the poverty rate of Nghe An province by the end of 2021 was 2.74%; the rate of near-poor households is 5.09%. Annually, the rate of multidimensionally poor households decreases by 1-1.5% each year, of which 2-3% in mountainous areas. Nghe An province strives to reduce the poverty rate by the end of 2025 to a level lower than the national average.

In terms of GRDP growth rate, Nghe An province averaged nearly 7% from 2016 to 2021. In 2021, GRDP growth rate in Nghe An province reaches 6.2%, ranking 22nd out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide. and ranked 3rd in the North Central region.

As for employment, in 2021, according to the People’s Committee of Nghe An province, the province is leading the country in the number of people going to work abroad. According to the Nghe An Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, in 2021, the whole province has created jobs for 40,294 people (exceeding 4.66% of the plan). In which, the province has 11,210 people going to work abroad under contract.

Notably, the number of Nghe An workers going to work abroad with professional qualifications accounts for over 60%, the average remittance sent back home is from 15 to 30 million VND/person/month. Because many workers go to work abroad, on average, hundreds of millions of USD of remittances are sent to the locality every year.

However, due to the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic, remittances sent back in 2021 have decreased significantly. Specifically, the amount of remittances sent to Nghe An province in 2021 will reach about 450 million USD, down 50 million USD compared to 2020.

On the other hand, according to the results of the 2019 Population and Housing Census of the General Statistics Office, Nghe An is in the top 5 localities with a high number of migrants with more than 105 thousand people. Nghe An is only behind the provinces of Thanh Hoa (141 thousand people), An Giang (nearly 139 thousand people) and Ho Chi Minh City. Ho Chi Minh City (more than 131 thousand people) in terms of number of migrants.
