On the morning of June 9, the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) UK educational organization announced the results of the world university rankings in 2023.

Accordingly, Vietnam has 3 universities in the top 801 – 1,000 of the world’s best universities: Duy Tan University (Da Nang), Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi National University. In particular, Duy Tan University is the first and only private school in Vietnam named in this top.

In addition, this year Ton Duc Thang University is in the top 1001 – 1,200 and Hanoi University of Science and Technology is in the top 1,201 – 1,400.

The QS rankings continue to expand the participation scale of global higher education institutions with 1,422 ranked universities, an increase of 122 institutions compared to the previous ranking period.

The ranking evaluates universities according to 6 criteria, including academic reputation (40%), employer assessment (10%), number of citations/lecturers (20%), faculty ratio per student (20%), international faculty ratio and international student ratio (10%).

The QS ranking criteria emphasize the contribution and impact of the university’s quality of training and research to society (through assessment of domestic and foreign businesses, scholars) and contributions. for scientific research activities (via number of citations/lecturers).

In addition to the six conventional ranking criteria, reputation with academic peers, reputation with employers, faculty/student ratio, article citations, international faculty ratio, and international student ratio. In fact, this ranking also adds two new ranking criteria: international research network and recruitment output.

The US continues to be the country of the top universities in the world with 5 universities in the top 10 (also 5 in the top 10 last year) including: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, Harvard University. , California Institute of Technology and the University of Chicago.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has been named the best university in the world for 10 years in a row and has scored a perfect score in research and employer assessments.

This year, University Cambridge rose to 2nd place. Thus, the UK has 4 representatives in the top 10, namely Oxford University, Imperial College London and University College London.

Dr. Nguyen Quoc Chinh, Director of the Center for Testing and Evaluation of Training Quality of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City, said that this year QS also ranks units according to each criterion. In which, the school’s highest ranking is the employment outcomes criterion, which holds the 378th position in the world, followed by the reputation criterion with academic peers at 408, and the reputation with employers at rank 4. 491, the rest of the criteria are in the top 601+.
