A series of mistakes Apple implicitly admits

Apple used to be “conservative” when it did not bring multitasking to the iPad or loyal to the small iPhone, but then changed its opinion.

Apple has made many decisions to change the digital device industry, such as launching smartphones with a full touch screen, eliminating the 3.5mm headphone port … However, the company also encountered some problems. mistakes, and instead of speaking up, they quietly correct them in new products.

iPad has multitasking like PC

Many users expressed their annoyance when the iPad only acts as a magnifying phone, unable to perform basic multitasking such as running two applications at the same time in two windows. Meanwhile, many Android or Windows tablets can already open multiple windows in parallel.

On the new iPadOS 16 launched at WWDC on June 6, Apple changed its mind. The new operating system has added a feature that helps tablets get closer to laptop functionality, when it supports displaying applications in different windows.

However, multitasking on iPadOS 16 is still limited, only applicable to some applications. In addition, the iPad Pro or iPad Air running the new M chip can exploit this feature.

Keyboard and mouse support for iPad

During the nearly ten years since its launch, the iPad does not support mouse and keyboard. Some people have tried to buy keyboards and mice from third parties, but most are not compatible.

It was not until 2019 with the iPadOS 13.4 operating system that Apple’s tablet extended this capability. The company also sells keyboards and mice. Currently, Apple promotes the iPad as a device that can be used flexibly in two states of tablet and laptop.

Bring the old connector back to the MacBook

From the 2016 MacBook Pro, Apple removed most of the connection ports, keeping only two USB Type-C ports and a headphone jack. This move was quickly criticized by users, because they were forced to buy additional accessories if they wanted to use other popular ports, such as USB-A, HDMI or an SD card slot.

Despite objections, Apple continues to maintain this design. However, by the MacBook Pro 2021 generation released late last year, Apple implicitly acknowledged the mistake and brought some ports back, such as the MagSafe 3 charging port, one more USB Type C port, an additional SD card slot and HDMI. This change makes the MacBook slightly thicker, but is considered a worthwhile trade-off for convenience.

Big screen iPhone

In 2010, when he introduced the iPhone 4, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs said that no one would want to buy a large phone. He even called Samsung’s Galaxy S back then “hammers” and “you can’t hold it comfortably in your hand”. iPhone 4 is equipped with a 3.5-inch screen, while 4-inch Android phones have started to gain popularity.

After Steve Jobs died in 2011, Apple released the longer iPhone 5 with a 4-inch screen. At that time, the Android world had several models over 5 inches. From here, the iPhone screen size race begins.

In 2014, Apple first introduced the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. Currently, the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a size of 6.7 inches.

Touch pen

In 2007, when the first iPhone was released, Jobs expressed his opinion on the stylus: “Who needs a stylus? You have to take it out and put it back in, or you can lose it. No one wants a stylus. , so don’t use it”.

Some former Apple employees said that Jobs hated the stylus. In fact, shortly after returning to Apple in 1997, the first thing he did was kill the Newton PDA – one of the devices that supported the stylus.

However, in 2015, Apple released the iPad Pro with the Apple Pencil. To date, this pen has been continuously improved and is an important accessory for many iPad users.
