Admire the restored 3,000-year-old shoe

The country’s oldest shoe, dating back around 3,000 years, is one of thousands of ancient artifacts recovered from melting ice sheets over the past two decades, according to a report in Norway.

It is known that the shoe, first discovered in 2007 in southern Norway, belongs to a size 4 or 5 according to the US size chart and may have belonged to a woman or young man. Along with the ancient shoe, the scientists also discovered some wooden arrows and spades, suggesting that the site was once an important hunting spot around 1,100 BC.

Unlike other environments, ice is an ideal medium for storing artifacts, with minimal decomposition and distortion. However, over the past few decades, this fact has been changed as the artefacts reveal more and more traces of deterioration – a negative impact of climate change.
