1. Error in pronunciation and stress

Students often do not memorize some of the rules of pronunciation and stress. There are many children who are still poor at the pronunciation of words, so when doing it, they often choose randomly, choose according to their reading method without knowing the theory, so the probability of choosing the correct answer is not much.

The advice is to memorize the pronunciation of some difficult vowels and consonants, how to pronounce the “s/es” and “ed” endings, as well as some tips for stressing words 2,3 syllables of adjectives, verbs, nouns,… or endings like “-ion”, “-ity” “-ance” “-ence” “-ment”,…

2. Errors in word filling and reading passages

Firstly, in this type of lesson, they often start working or translate the lesson but skip an important part of reading the topic. This is the most concise summary of the content of the article (unless the article has no topic). This makes them not have an overview of the whole lesson as quickly as possible.

In addition, they often do not pay attention to the type of word to fill in the blank, the meaning of the word to be filled in… Identifying the type of word that you need to fill in the essay will help you have a direction to choose the correct answer for the filling task. words with a probability of up to 70%, the rest is just me to assemble the selected answer and review the correct meaning to be more sure with my choice.

Secondly, they have the habit of translating the entire content of the lesson before reading the question. This habit will cause them to spend a lot of time reading and may lead to not having enough time to work on the next tasks.

What students should do is read the question first, then identify the idea, determine the difficulty level of each sentence to make the easy one first.

Next, you need to find the content for that answer, when you read the content of the passage, you have to answer how and in which line in the passage,… And when you know the type of question to answer. The answer will be easy to find.

3. Error in grammar and vocabulary

In this part, there are still cases where students make mistakes in verb conjugation, question tags, nouns, verbs, prepositions, articles,…

It can be caused by the following factors:

– Firstly, they do not know the grammar well, leading to confusion when doing the test, not thinking of the answer or choosing the wrong answer.

– Secondly, they still lack vocabulary, so when translating the question, the wrong translation leads to choosing the wrong answer.

– Third, some students are not careful and subjective in doing the test, so they only skim through and do it quickly and in a hurry, which leads to choosing the wrong answer.

To overcome the above factors, students need to consolidate the knowledge they have learned, review the types of lessons they still make mistakes, do the test to keep a relaxed, calm mind, read and understand the topic carefully as well as answer options to choose the most appropriate answer.

4. Error in the form of rewriting sentences

In this type of lesson, students are still not sure of the basic structures. At the same time, when studying in class, they often learn in the form of essays to rewrite sentences, so when they go to the real test – multiple choice, they also face many difficulties.

To overcome this part, students are forced to carefully study basic sentence structures, need to rewrite sentences carefully with absolute accuracy. And to do well, you need to master basic structures such as:

– Rewrite the sentence structure of the present perfect.

– The structure of the wish sentence “Wish” and the structure “Used to”.

– Direct – indirect sentence structure.

– Passive sentence structure, including: the structure “have something done” and “get something done”.

– Sentence structure comparing equals, comparatives, double comparisons,…

– Structure of relative clauses, passive sentences.

– Structure of conditional sentence type 1, type 2.

– Structure related to words indicating the purpose such as: in order to, in order that..

– Linking words: because, although, though, but, so, so that, therefore,…

5. Errors in the form of error correction articles

This type of lesson is considered a “saver” for students. However, this is also an easy post to lose points. Some of you who have practiced many questions will immediately find the wrong answer, but some of you will be difficult or need a lot of time to find the wrong answer, sometimes you can’t find the answer, so you should circle the answer.

Therefore, when encountering this type of lesson, in addition to mastering the grammar, you should also “carry” some test tips, which will help increase the possibility of choosing the correct answer.

6. Error in the form of communication questions

They often choose the answer according to their own translation without thinking about many answers having to rely on the context, on the standard/special answer to that question,…

So for this part, you just need to carefully review the Speaking section in the textbook. In addition, students need to review how to ask questions and answer questions in the following forms: invitation, suggestion, request, advice, praise, …

7. Error in the form of synonyms – antonyms

In this type of lesson, students need to pay attention to read carefully, determine the requirements of the topic and the meaning they need to find. Many students have translated the question and know the meaning of the answers but chose the wrong answer because they did not read the question carefully.

Besides, they also need to guess the meaning of the underlined word/phrase based on the context. Because, an English word often has more than one meaning, carefully reading and translating the meaning of the whole sentence will help us determine in the sentence what the word means and can infer the word to be filled in. This note is very important, because the synonym to look for is the word that can replace the bold word in the context of that sentence, not merely the synonym of that word.

8. Errors in the form of phrasal verbs, idioms

This is the most difficult part of the test, not only requires students to remember the exact meaning of phrasal verbs, idioms, etc., but also to clearly understand the meaning of the answer. judgment when filling out that question. However, in the process of doing the test, most of the students don’t remember, don’t pay attention to the exact meaning, or misunderstand the meaning of the question, etc. As a result, they often get this question wrong.

To overcome this, they need to carefully study some phrasal verbs of verbs such as: to get, to make, to take, to bring, to do,… and some idioms in the textbooks they have learned. . In addition, you should also practice carefully the questions of this exercise.

With the above sharing and instructions, Mr. Minh Trung hopes that the students who are still worried about the 10 English exams will be somewhat more secure in this urgent period. Wish you keep yourself a strong mentality, fully equipped with knowledge, try your best to achieve high results in the next exam!
