A series of videos of fathers, male teachers and even brothers wearing tight cheongsams are receiving the attention of the Chinese media and social networking sites in recent days.

According to a Chinese idiom, cheongsam means “success on the first try”. Therefore, cheongsam is often worn in important ceremonies or events in the hope of bringing good luck.

In Anshan city of Liaoning province, the principal of a high school wore a cheongsam on June 5 and gave a speech wishing students luck in the important exam of life.

“I have never worn women’s clothing, but today I wear this because of you! I wish you luck in your upcoming exams.”said the principal.

This year’s university exam in China recorded a record number of contestants with 11.93 million. The exam time is from 7 to 8 June but with the exception of Shanghai, where the exam will take place more than 1 month later because most of the city’s residents have to be isolated at home during the prolonged blockade.
