Explaining this issue, Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh emphasized that in the new general education curriculum, there is still a period when History is a compulsory subject.

“Regarding some voters’ opinions that History is an elective subject that easily leads to the abandonment or death of History subject, in fact it is not.” Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh said.

The Deputy Prime Minister explained that according to Resolution No. 29 of the Central Government on fundamental and comprehensive renovation of education and training, the general education program must ensure that students at lower secondary level have basic general knowledge, meet the requirements of strong streamlining after secondary school; High school students approach careers and prepare for quality post-secondary education.

Next, Resolution 88 of the National Assembly, Decision No. 404 of the Prime Minister clearly stipulates that 12-year general education consists of two phases: Basic education includes 5-year primary education and 4-year lower secondary education; 3-year career-oriented education stage at high school.

At the basic education stage, History is still a compulsory subject with a duration of 280 lessons in the program from grades 4 to 9. At the career orientation stage of grades 10-12, History is in the complex. social science.

“History subjects are taught in all high schools, ensuring effective use of the existing staff of History teachers. History subjects are divided into two such phases, still ensuring History subjects.”Deputy Prime Minister Pham Binh Minh said.

However, over the past time, many voters have paid attention to this issue, so the Government directed the Ministry of Education and Training to listen to opinions. The Vietnam Historical Science Association organizes seminars with relevant agencies, units, experts and scientists to discuss thoroughly, comprehensively evaluate, propose suitable plans, ensure the learning of History. and knowledge about this subject, especially the nation’s history, is always enhanced and focused.
