During a test by developer Riley Testut with the beta version of iOS 16, he discovered his Switch Pro Controller can now be recognized and supported by iPhones. Testut also tried with Joy-Cons and gave the same results.
This support was confirmed on Twitter by Apple’s chief technical officer, Nat Brown, who also said that it’s possible to split the Joy-Cons into individual controllers manually using keyboard shortcuts. “When both are paired with iPhone, hold down the buttons on the bottom (left hand hold Capture button and right hand hold Home button) for a few seconds to combine Joy-Cons into one controller and perform interactive operation. to separate them,” Brown confirmed.
It’s not yet known if other Switch controllers can be paired with iOS 16, such as the NES, SNES, Mega Drive, and N64 controllers.
Apple has regularly added support for console controllers to its devices. In 2019, the company added support for Xbox One and DualShock 4 controllers, then in April 2021, Xbox Series X/S and DualSense controllers also added support.
