One tucked in one earcup, but both are modern
About a week ago Sony was announced its high-end wireless headset duo WH-1000XM5 and LinkBuds S to Vietnam market. Perhaps the WH-1000XM5 has “taken up the waves” more when this is an upgrade product for the very famous pair of headphones released 2 years ago, but the LinkBuds S also has a lot to say.

Sony LinkBuds S: Designed to Wear All Day
Sony’s recent pairs of in-ear headphones are all packed into an ultra-compact environmental protection paper box.
The accessories in the box include a Type-C charging cord, 3 rubber pads, a user manual and a voucher to try out the 360 Reality Audio surround sound service on smartphones – a feature that LinkBuds S supports.
The charging box of this headset looks quite “cute”, opens the lid in the vertical direction and has a rounded design.
The charging port of the box is located on the back. This box supports fast charging technology to continue using the headset for 1 hour after 5 minutes of charging.
LinkBuds S has a duration of 6 hours of continuous use, and when combined with the box will increase to 20 hours.
Sony says that these headphones are made to be used anytime, anywhere. To achieve this purpose, the headset has 3 notable features including: external design, the ability to control the ambient volume and IPX4 water resistance standard.
The headset weighs only 4.9g on each side and is also much more compact than previous Sony TWS pairs, so it feels comfortable for the wearer, helping to use it longer.
The ability to control the environment includes two small features, environmental listening and active noise cancellation, which are automatically adjusted to match the outside sound level. Some other features of the headset include Speak-to-chat, Hi-res Wireless, DSEE Extreme music upscaling and AI voice filtering microphone.
Sony WH-1000XM5: Upgrade and also go in a new direction
Like high-end wireless headsets, the WH-1000XM5 comes with a zippered hard carrying case.
Inside the box, there is a small compartment to place accessories such as a Type-C charging cord and a 3.5mm music cord.
Perhaps you can already see, the WH-1000XM5 has different design lines compared to the previous 4th generation (if more broadly, it will be the 2nd and 3rd generation too)!
The frame of the headset does not surround the headset anymore, but connects at a single point, looking simpler than the old design.
But this joint also leaves a drawback: the headset can no longer be folded. This is also the reason why the carrying case of the headset is larger than the old generation.
Because the frame is made thinner, the headrest is also smaller than the old generation, but Sony says that it has used thick materials to not cause tension at the top of the head.
The ear cushions also received a similar upgrade, which is softer and more durable than the previous generation.
The Type-C and 3.5mm charging ports of the headset are of course still located at the bottom.
The side has the power button, the switch between active noise cancellation and listening to the environment, the volume adjustment, song switching, calling the virtual assistant are done on the outside touch panel.
Around the headset, there are up to 8 microphones instead of 4 as before, combined with the receiver navigation feature for the highest quality conversation.
Also thanks to this 2x microphone system, the headset has an upgraded noise-canceling quality: more efficient, automatically adjusts the intensity and also calculates the tightness if hair and glasses get through, Besides 3 minutes fast charging for 3 hours of use, the latest Bluetooth 5.2 instead of Bluetooth 5.0.
In terms of sound, the headset uses a 30mm diaphragm, which is 10mm smaller than the 4th generation, but is coated with carbon to increase elasticity. Fast experience, the WH-1000XM5 has had an upgrade when it compacts the bass range and makes the highs brighter, creating a more balanced sound pattern than the WH-1000XM4.
Currently, both products are in the Pre-Order stage, whereby giving a Sony bag to the LinkBuds S series and gifting the SRS-XB13 Bluetooth speaker (worth 1.29 million VND) to the WH-1000XM5.
