Prime Minister congratulated Vietnam U23 on reaching the quarterfinals of U23 Asia
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh encouraged the entire U23 Vietnam team to prepare well for the next match with noble sportsmanship, because of the colors of the flag. The Prime Minister encouraged the team to continue to play with all their heart, surpassing themselves, not because of the pressure of achievement.
U23 Vietnam passed the group stage U23 Asia 2022.
U23 Vietnam ranked second in Group C after 3 matches, winning 5 points with an unbeaten record. This is the first time the representative of Vietnamese football made it through the group stage of the Asian tournament without losing a match. U23 Vietnam is also the first team of Southeast Asia to be unbeaten in the group stage of the Southeast Asian U23 Championship.
To win the right to enter the quarterfinals, coach Gong Oh-kyun’s teachers and students experienced 2 draws with U23 Thailand and U23 Korea before convincingly defeating Malaysia U23 in the last match. U23 Vietnam’s performance impressed the fans with its dedication and high determination.
“Vietnam U23 got their first win and entered the quarter-finals. Before this tournament, no one thought we would be able to do that. I was impressed with my players. I asked the players what they wanted. They say they want to go to a higher level. I understand and want to take them to new lands.” Coach Gong Oh-kyun spoke after the victory over Malaysia U23 on the evening of June 8.
On behalf of the VFF Standing Committee, Acting President Tran Quoc Tuan congratulated the achievement of reaching the quarter-finals of Vietnam U23 team as the runner-up of Group C, as well as demonstrating the team’s competitive spirit.
Acting President Tran Quoc Tuan wished the team good health and continued to focus on the quarterfinals. With this result, VFF awarded 600 million VND to the U23 Vietnam team.
Immediately after the match, Mr. Dang Minh Khoi- Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia also congratulated U23 Vietnam on the victory.
The opponent of U23 Vietnam is likely to be U23 Japan, the team that has the most advantage to keep the top of Group D when the group stage closes.
The quarter-final match of U23 Vietnam will take place at 23:00 on Sunday, June 12.
