On June 9, news from Dak Lak Provincial People’s Committee said that it had just issued a decision to sanction an administrative violation of 15 million VND against Ms. Tran Thi Ngoc P. (SN 1990; living in Tan Loi ward, Buon Ma Thuot city) because has performed the procedure of death registration for living people.

Mrs. P. said her grandson L. died at 6:30 p.m. on May 4 due to pneumonia and died at home, not at a hospital or medical facility. Although L. is still alive, the People’s Committee of Tan An ward still issues a death certificate for him.

After discovering the case, Ms. P.’s ex-husband asked the police force to assist in finding her son. On the afternoon of May 23, after dozens of family members of Mrs. P.’s ex-husband came to put pressure on her, the local authorities and her family found L.’s nephew living with a stranger in Dak Nong province.
